GROUP SUGGESTED ITINERARIES

DAY 1: Tour the Ring of Kerry

Ring of KerryDerrynane is the perfect base to tour the Ring of Kerry from. You can tour the Ring in a day or divided into two days, enjoying the most magnificent scenery in the world. You can start from the hotel and go through Sneem – a quaint colourful village with some lovely craft & antiques shops, and visit Quills Woollen Market. Sneem is also full of lovely owner run cafes and restaurants. Then on to Kenmare, a Heritage town that is full of wonderful Book Shops & Woollen Mills and Crafts. As you travel the Ring towards Killarney the wonderful vistas of Lakes & Mountains beholds you. In Killarney stop off and visit Muckross House & Gardens, or take a jaunting car around the National Park, or visit Torc Waterfall. Further on Ross Castle & take a boat trip on the lakes, a real treat. From Killarney, continue on the Ring to Killorglin and then Glenbeigh enjoying the stunning views of Dingle Bay, and along the way visit the Old Bog Museum. Cahirceveen Heritage Centre is also a good visit and then back to Derrynane via the lovely seaside town of Waterville – which was regularly visited by Charlie Chaplin, where a beautiful monument to Charlie is on the Main Street. Tonight we will arrange a special Irish Night’s entertainment.

DAY 2 : Visit the Beara Peninsula

Travelling via Sneem and Kenmare and onto Glengariff – a lovely small village where you can stop and cross by boat to Garnish Island renowned for its beautiful tropical plants. Boat trips to the Island can be arranged locally in advance by your guide. Also on the Beara Peninsula is Bantry – a seaside town with many quaint shops & cafes, while there visit Bantry House. The Beara tour is wonderful drive where the scenery is spectacular. Back at Derrynane Hotel where after dinner relax and unwind in our Bar & Lounge, enjoy stunning views, play cards or board-games.

DAY 3: Visit to Dingle

The Dingle Peninsula is truly special the vast ocean & breathtaking scenery of Slea Head there are many things to see and do in Dingle – the harbour area, Visit Fungi – the Dolphin, Ocean World, Archaeological sites, renowned pottery shops and a superb selection of cafes & shops.

DAY 4: Local Area of Caherdaniel & Derrynane

Stay in the local area – one cannot say they have been in Caherdaniel without having visited the famous Derrynane House, home of Daniel O’Connell and walk through the tropical gardens and see the exotic plants and shrubs that the mild climate has allowed to grow there. From there, you can stroll down on to the magnificent Derrynane beach – unspoilt by time! There are two traditional pubs in Caherdaniel, where you will enjoy the local craic & a pint or two! – you can’t help feeling that you want the place to remain undiscovered. Everybody who visits always returns

DAY 5: Local Area of Caherdaniel

Lots to do and see …

1. Skelligs Rock: Arrange a visit to Skellig’s rock locally with John O’Shea, or from Portmage with Ken Roddy, weather permitting. Boat trips cost €45 per person and can be arranged locally. There is also the Skelligs Heritage Centre on Valentia Island, visit there website : www.skelligexperience.com for more details.

2. Heritage Sites: You can also visit Staigue Fort which is in Castlecove about 10 minutes drive from here – it is a 2000 year old Fortress and view the exhibition & audio visual while enjoying a cup of coffee at the Staigue Fort Interpretative Centre.

3. Golfing Trips: Skellig Bay Golf Club in Waterville, about 20 minutes drive from Hotel. There is a special rate to our guests for €50 a round of golf, on this stunning Golf course. Visit www.skelligbay.com for more information.

4. Walking: Derrynane Hotel has its own published Walking Guide with maps and can be provided to our guests on fantastic local walks from the beginner to the more advanced walker. Additionally the hotel can provide a packed lunch on request. We have our own Utility Room and Drying Room for our guests’usage.

5. Fishing: Shore Fishing at Derrynane well known for Bass, Mackerel, Pollock, and lots more. Deep Sea Fishing can be arranged by Hotel. Lake Fishing can be arranged by Hotel with our local Ghillies at a rate of €130 per day for two.

6. Horse Riding: Locally can be arranged with Caroline Donnelly at ‘Eagle Rock Stables’ at a rate of €30 per hour.

7. Seasports: A surfer’s paradise, Derrynane Watersports can supply all the necessary watersports equipment and lessons.

8. Artist Paradise: Bring along your easels and you are spoilt for choices for creating very own masterpiece in our surrounding gardens, Derrynane National Park, panoramic views and Seascapes.

In the Southwest we are spoilt with the most stunning gardens, while away the hours amongst the must amazing fauna and furze ….

  • Derrynane National Park: Home of Daniel O’Connell in grounds of this subtropical garden.

  • Muckross House Gardens: Located in Killarney National Park.
  • Derreen: Subtropical conditions where exotic trees and shrubs flourish.
