Beginners Art with Helen Richmond.24th June

Hello students,

I am looking forward to introducing you all to the delights of painting & drawing. If you don’t know one end of a paintbrush from the other then this is the course for you,If you have tried before & things have not gone as planned, this is a golden opportunity to have another bash.

On Friday evening I will meet with you all informally in the beautiful surroundings of the Derrynane  Hotel. We can use this opportunity to discuss our interests outside art which may find their ways into our paintings & also to clarify any issues relating to our workshop plans for the weekend.

Saturday 10am-1pm: I will first introduce you to some of the artists basic materials & tools,Then we will learn  how to mix colour & also a few basic drawing skills,Our next task will be to produce a sketch for our very first painting either in a realistic, abstract or semi abstract style,Finally the long awaited moment,we will start work on our first painting.

2pm-4pm: After lunch we will resume work & complete our first work of Art. Using the remaining time to draw & sketch our ideas for our next piece

Sunday 9.30-1.30pm: On Sunday we will begin early and aim to complete our second painting by 1.30.  If your painting is finished before 1.30 I will set you another challenge to help you overcome any problems you may have had with your previous work. Basic materials will be provided but students will be encouraged to bring any materials they have If you wish to paint in oils ,please bring your own white spirit, A cotton rag eg an old teeshirt would be handy (alternatively kitchen roll)

If you want a clean pallet to lay your paint out on I recommend that you bring your own as the ones that I possess aren’t the cleanest.  A large white plate or two is a good substitute , paper plates are great as they are disposable ,basically what you want is a clean non absorbent surface with plenty of space to mix up different colours

DO NOT WEAR YOUR BEST CLOTHES AS THEY MAY BECOME COVERED IN PAINT!

Looking forward to seeing you all in June

Helen
